Special Projects

The Special Projects section in Carlow Co. Co. deals with a variety of projects varying from large-scale multimillion-euro projects funded under Urban Regeneration and Development Fund (URDF) to smaller projects funded under the Rural Regeneration and Development Fund (RRDF), Active Travel Investment Programme, Town and Village Renewal Scheme and our own resources.

What are Special Projects?

The projects  are typically related to  improving the public realm, improving infrastructure for vulnerable road users, enhancing the  quality of life for residents and providing amenities, promoting regeneration, preserving historic buildings and our cultural heritage.

Carlow County Council – Active Travel

Carlow County Council is committed to the Active Travel programme by developing and delivering quality walking and cycling routes for people of all abilities to use on everyday journeys. Providing everyone with a healthy, safe, and carbon-neutral choice to get around.

URDF - Urban Regeneration and Development Fund

The Carlow Town Urban Regeneration and Development Fund (URDF) is a €20.8 million funding allocation to Carlow County Council to support the implementation of Project Carlow 2040, an ambitious regeneration strategy for Carlow Town.
