Web Accessibility Guidelines

The Carlow County Council website follows guidelines on accessibility set out by the World Wide Web Consortium. The W3C, Web Accessibility Initiative produces accessibility guidelines that are an internationally recognised benchmark of accessibility.

In designing this site, we have applied all appropriate Web Accessibility Initiative Priority 1 content accessibility guidelines. All HTML documents on the site validate as XHTML 1.0 Transitional. This ensures they work with a wide variety of browsers. In addition to this, we have provided a number of additional features to make the website more accessible.

Choose Text Size

Please note that page layout may be affected by changing text size.

  1. Using Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox, select Text Size from the View or Page menu and choose your preferred option.
  2. For all other browsers, please refer to the browser help file.

Printing

This website is optimised for printing. Simply print the page using your browsers print option and the page will print out to fit the width of the paper.

Adobe and Microsoft Word Documents

The website uses World Wide Web Consortium technologies such as XHTML and CSS wherever possible. However, in the past, information has been provided on our website in both Microsoft Word and Adobe PDF ( Portable Document Format ). We will endeavour to make certain important documents available as an XHTML alternative where feasible.

Documents in Adobe PDF ( Portable Document Format ) require you to download and install the free Adobe Acrobat Reader software.

Our Promise

We are committed to making our website accessible to all people, regardless of ability. We will continue to closely monitor developments and changes in WAI guidelines and general website best practice. If you feel this website could be easier to use, or you have difficulty accessing any of the information contained within please contact:
