Sewage Sludge Facilities Regulations Enforcement

Local authorities regulate the storage of waste in sewage sludge facilities from waste water treatment plants and septic tanks.

Local authorities regulate the storage of treated sewage sludge in permitted facilities in their functional area, originating from wastewater treatment plants. Each facility must apply for a Certificate of registration from the relevant local authority, as specified in the Waste Management (Registration of Sewage Sludge Facility) Regulations 2010 (S.I. No. 32/2010).

Each facility is monitored and inspected at random times throughout the year by staff of the Environment Section.
