Carlow County Council to Reduce Rents For Families Who Have Lost Jobs Due To Covid-19 -27th March 2020

Carlow County Council will reduce rents for families who have lost their jobs due to the Corona virus. Carlow County Council is aware that many tenants may be affected by the recent employment losses and changes to working conditions adversely impacting household incomes. Differential rents which apply to Council properties and the HAP scheme are calculated on the basis of household income, consequently if your primary income has now reduced so too will your rent.

In order to assist people with their application, three dedicated phone lines have been established to address queries in respect of the differential rent scheme:

• 059-9136210
• 059-9170367
• 059-9136279
The lines operate in normal office hours which can be reviewed on www.carlow.ie
Carlow County Council are committed to conducting rent reviews as soon as possible and revised rents will be backdated to the date of employment cessation. Please note it is each tenant’s responsibility to provide accurate information. All information will be validated and verified with the Department of Employment Affairs & Social Welfare Protection
Speaking about the issue , Kathleen Holohan , Chief Executive with Carlow County Council said “our staff will be sympathetic towards people who have been temporarily laid off and work through the differential rent scheme”
In general speaking about the COVID-19 actions by Carlow County Council , Holohan continued to say “she would like to thank the people of County Carlow for their cooperation with the health advice and social distancing measures put in place by the Government and the HSE” “Staff of Carlow County Council have been working closely on an inter-agency basis with other primary services, particularly the HSE to support them in their response to COVID-10. Carlow County Council remains an essential provider of services and priority services will continue to be maintained throughout the COVID-19 outbreak”.
