ARTLINKS – COLLABORATION AWARD 2020 FOR ARTISTS BURSARY AWARDED
PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – 14TH MAY 2020
Artlinks is a partnership initiative of local authorities Arts Offices in Carlow, Kilkenny, Waterford and Wexford with the Arts Council of Ireland for supports to artists living in the South East Region.
Earlier this year Artlinks offered a new Collaboration Award for Professional and Emerging Artists who are members of ArtLinks. The aim of this new award was to encourage more collaboration between artists across the Artlinks counties and support artists seeking to expand their practice and networks regionally. The ArtLinks Collaboration Award for 2020 received applications from 33 artists, with submissions coming from all four of the ArtLinks partner counties of Carlow, Kilkenny, Waterford and Wexford. The number of applications amounted to 11 with artists collaborating from a range of artforms and arts practice areas, including Film, Theatre / Drama, Visual Art as well as Multi-disciplinary projects.
Recognising the importance of supporting our artists the local authority arts offices of Carlow, Kilkenny, Waterford and Wexford Artlinks initiative has been running for many years with large investment and supports given to artists living in the region. As we now move through these challenging uncertain times it is with great pleasure that we announce that the award of €10,000 has been offered to 3 collaborative artists in the south east region – Clare Breen – from Carlow, Mary Conroy – from Kilkenny and Laura Ní Fhlaibhín from Wexford.
These three inspiring Artists have a common denominator of sustainability and environmental awareness within the process of art production. The proposed project is also generous and will aim to share the finding of the Artists research through a project website, which will include an Irish language translation. The project is titled ‘Materials Matter – Ábhar Ábhar’ as Gaeilge. The project draws on very contemporary issues such as climate change and DIY cultures (and would have been very useful during the current lockdown…) The project themes are linked to the UN Global Goals for Sustainable Development and one of the advisers on the project is Dr. Irene Cadogan, Assistant Principal Officer at the Department of Climate Action and the Environment.
