Have your say on the development and implementation of the River Basin Management Plans.

This public consultation sets out the main steps and milestones for the development of the third River Basin Management Plan (RBMP) for Ireland, and seeks the views of the public with respect to those steps. In addition, comments are being sought from stakeholders and the public on governance and implementation of the current RBMP. This current consultation aims to ensure an informed, collaborative, and robust review of the current Plan, with learnings helping to inform the development of the next Plan. Public and stakeholder involvement can guide future work and measures to improve water quality over the coming years, thereby enhancing RBMP governance and implementation during the third RBMP cycle from 2022 through 2027.

This first consultation stage, which will run for six months from January to June 2019, will allow the Department of Housing, Planning and Local Government to: –

  • Finalise the timetable and work programme for developing the third RBMP.
  • Outline the ways for stakeholder and public participation and engagement in the development of the Plan.
  • Set out the approach for developing the Plan.
  • Welcome suggestions on ways to improve or expand stakeholders and public engagement.
  • Promote continued support for implementation of RBMP measures.

How to respond to the consultation.

A short questionnaire is available to facilitate responses to key questions in relation to the development and implementation of the current (second) RBMP and the process to develop the Third RBMP. Responses received will ensure public opinion informs assessment of the current RBMP and future consultation on the Third Plan. The questionnaire can be found in Appendix 1 of the consultation document which can be found at RBMP 2022 – 2027 (this is an external link) and can also be completed via this link: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/3Q9VMS7

If you have any comments or suggestions outside of those topics covered in the questionnaire, you can also send them directly to the Department of Housing, Planning and Local Government at: [email protected]. In addition, interested parties can engage with the Local Authority Waters Programme either at any of the Community Information Meetings or by emailing: [email protected].
