Youth Councils / Comhairle na nÓg
Comhairle na nÓg (Youth Councils ) have been established since 2002 by City and County Development Boards in each of the 34 Local Authority areas throughout the country. The purpose of the Comhairle na nÓg is to provide a forum for children and young people from each CDB area to discuss local and national issues of relevance to them. Delegates from Comhairle na nÓg are elected or selected to represent their local area at the annual Dáil na nÓg.
The Office of the Minister for Children provides a small annual grant to County Development Boards to support the Comhairle.

National Youth Council of Ireland (NYCI) believes that all young people are citizens in their own right. NYCI is committed to promoting the best interests, well-being, democratic rights, active involvement and need for equal outcomes for young people to enable them to develop as individuals and as active citizens.
County Carlow Comhairle na nÓg
County Carlow Comhairle na nÓg meets every two weeks on Thursdays at 6pm in the Vault (Carlow Regional Youth Services youth facility). Members are elected to Comhairle at the annual Youth Forum, and the number of people elected varies from year to year. There are currently 20 members on the 2008 Carlow Comhairle na nÓg. Two of the youth Workers in the Youth Services are contracted by the County Development Board to facilitate and support the Comhairle na nÓg. Their objectives for this year's 08/09 work programme are as follows.
Objective 1:
To further promote Comhairle na nÓg, in particular the annual Youth Forum, to all young people, schools and youth work organisatins in the County.
Objective 2:
To increase the number of young people, in particular hard to reach young people, participating in all Comhairle na nÓg events.
Objective 3:
To develop the capacity of the Carlow Comhairle Group in County Carlow, so that they can select the most appropriate actions for the 2009 Action Plan and to represent all young people in Carlow effectively.
