Unum is to establish a strategic software service centre, with the support of IDA Ireland, in Carlow town. Unum is a US-based industry leader in employee benefits and the largest provider of group and individual disability income protection insurance in the US and the UK. The new investment will create up to 200 new high-level positions.

Press release - Merck and Co Inc. to establish a vaccine facility [ 27 November 2007 ]
Merck and Co Inc., the global healthcare company and seventh largest pharmaceutical company in the world, is to establish a new 200 million Euro strategic vaccine facility in Carlow Town with the support of IDA Ireland. Merck has acquired the 65 acre IDA Business and Technology park. The project will support Merck's expanding global business in human vaccines and biologics and will create 170 new high quality jobs by 2011. It will employ a highly skilled and technically sophisticated workforce across all areas of management, quality control, production, engineering, research and development and administration.
