Welcome

Did you know that Carlow is one of the fastest growing counties in Ireland. Significant retail investment is taking place throughout the county and the overall buoyancy of Carlow is reflected also in the large number of residential developments. Sustainability of the local economy in Carlow is a key policy goal for Carlow Local Authorities in addition to stimulating economic development and job creation opportunities. Carlow Local Authorities have identified that commuters represent an enormous opportunity on which to build a strong local economy as they contain a rich variety of employment skills and experience.

As a result Carlow Local Authorities created the www.clickforcarlow.ie website. This website was established to facilitate companies who are considering locating industry, business or enterprise in Carlow and wish to identify the skills base in the County.

Commuting to Work

The commuting population has increased dramatically over the past few years and an estimated 6,000 people now commute on a daily basis from the county.  The profile is one of a young, well educated, professional commuter who has moved to Carlow for reasons to do with housing, relationships or work. They commute an average of 86 miles per day. Most commuters are working in Dublin city or county and the majority travel by road. They work in a variety of professions with a large variety of job titles, in areas such as Financial services, Insurance, IT, Software and Marketing.

Apart from foreign direct investment, Carlow Local Authorities have taken the lead with Carlow County Development Board in targeting Dublin based businesses for re-location.  Many companies operating in congested urban areas, particularly Dublin, are incurring high costs and experiencing difficulty sourcing labour due to the high cost of living associated with their location. With modern information communication technology, many of these companies could locate all or part of their operations in County Carlow.  Carlow Local Authorities are targeting such companies with a view to having them re-locate expansion led growth or part or all of their operation in the county.

Carlow is progressively pro-business and the county welcomes and is fully supportive of investment in industrial, commercial and office development.
