Introduction

The purpose of the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act, 2005 is to ensure the safety, health and welfare of all employees in the workplace.  The act applies to employers and employees in all types of work and embraces all the activities of Carlow Local Authorities.

Under Section 20 of the Act, an employer is required to prepare a written Safety Statement outlining the employer’s arrangements and resources to implement safety within the organization.  Also outlined under Section 13 of the Act, are the duties of the employees to co-operate as necessary to ensure the safety, health and welfare within the workplace.

Safety Statement

In response to this requirement, Carlow Local Authorities has prepared a Safety Statement, which details both it’s commitment to Safety, Health and Welfare and the overall structure of the proposed programme. Overall responsibility for the management of Safety, Health and Welfare lies with the County Manager. However the day to day management of Health, Safety and Welfare at work matters has been delegated to the Director of Services, Water Services and Environment. Individual Directors are responsible for operational aspects of safety,  health and welfare at work within their sections.
