Web Accessibility Statement

The Carlow County Council website follows guidelines on accessibility set out by the World Wide Web Consortium. The W3C, Web Accessibility Initiative produces accessibility guidelines that are an internationally recognised benchmark of accessibility.

In designing this site, we have applied all appropriate Web Accessibility Initiative Priority 1 content accessibility guidelines. All HTML documents on the site validate as XHTML 1.0 Transitional. This ensures they work with a wide variety of browsers. In addition to this, we have provided a number of additional features to make the website more accessible.

  1. Changing viewing preferences.
  2. Increasing text size using your browser.
  3. Printing.
  4. PDF and Microsoft Word.
  5. Our Promise.

Changing Viewing Preferences

You can view this website in a variety of different text sizes and in a high contrast style. To change your viewing preference, choose from the icons in the header.

Increasing text size using your browser

Please note that JavaScript must be enabled to access the above styles. If JavaScript is disabled you can resize text using your browser.

  1. To change text size using Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox, select Text Size from the View or Page menu and choose your preferred option.
  2. If you are using another browser, please refer to your browser help to learn how to resize text.

Please note that the page layout may be affected by increasing the font size.

Printing

This website is optimised for printing. Simply print the page using your browsers PRINT option and the page will print out to fit the width of the paper.

PDF and Microsoft Word

The website uses World Wide Web Consortium technologies such as XHTML and CSS wherever possible. However, in the past information has been provided on our website in both Microsoft Word and Adobe portable document format. We will endeavour to make certain important documents available as an XHTML alternative where feasible.

However, a number of documents on this site are only in PDF format, which requires you to download and install the free Adobe Acrobat Reader software.

Our Promise

We are committed to making our website accessible to all people, regardless of ability. We will continue to closely monitor developments and changes in WAI guidelines and general website best practice.

If you feel that this website could be easier to use, or you have difficulty accessing any information please email webteam@carlowcoco.ie
