Disabled Persons Grant

This scheme provides grants to applicants to adapt a dwelling house to cater for the needs of a disabled person. The maximum grant payable by a local authority in respect of a privately owned house is 90% of the approved cost of the works. The Local Authority can grant aid the full cost of the works in the case of a local authority house.

Essential Repairs Grant for the Elderly

The scheme is directed primarily at providing grant aid to elderly people living in poor housing conditions.  It is intended to facilitate having those conditions improved sufficiently to allow them to remain in their homes for their lifetime and to prevent them having to move to a different area or to be rehoused by the local authority.  The grant may cover 100% of the cost of the works.

Improvement Works in Lieu of Local Authority Housing

Under this scheme, the local authority may improve or extend a privately owned house to eliminate defects or to provide additional accommodation where it is necessary to eliminate overcrowding or to accommodate a person not at present residing in the house. The carrying out of the works must satisfy the housing needs of the household and result in their removal from the housing waiting list.
