The role of the office of Community and Enterprise is to further enhance the Council’s role in working with local community groups and voluntary organisations in the economic and social regeneration and development of their areas.

- What grants are available to community groups ?
Through its Community and Enterprise Department, Carlow County Council offers grants for festivals, amenity projects, community activity and tidy towns projects.
- What type of festival qualifies for a grant ?
This grant scheme aims to promote and support local festivals and celebratory activities in the county. The scheme is designed to support and assist those events that have a tourism, cultural, artistic or community perspective.
- What support is available for voluntary groups engaged in community activity ?
Applications are welcome for activities which promote the well-being of communities in County Carlow. We will consider funding specific projects in the following areas ( not day to day running costs ). Projects that take account of and assist under-represented groups, projects that reduce the level of social exclusion and poverty in the county, projects which increase opportunities for local employment and training, projects that promote social integration and links with new residents in the county, improvement or conversion of existing buildings for community use, preparation of development and action plans of local groups, local research and training.
- How does Carlow County Council support Tidy Towns ?
The Council encourages Tidy Town groups to enter the National Tidy Towns Competition and provides an incentive grant to do so. We also hold a prize-giving ceremony in the Autumn and reward high achievers in the competition as well as improvers and new entrants. The Council also runs seminars and workshops for Tidy Town groups. There is no application form for these schemes. Once a Tidy Towns group registers with the Council they automatically qualify for inclusion.
- What is the closing date for these grants ?
All of these grants are advertised in late February with a closing date in and around St. Patrick's Day.
