TIDY TOWNS 2010
Tidy Towns activists from Carlow Town, Clonmore, Clonegal, Hacketstown, Myshall, Tinryland, Ballon, Borris, Leighlinbridge, Bagenalstown and Tullow attended a Tidy Towns Seminar in Carlow County Council Chamber at 11am on Thursday 18th February, 2010.

Contributors included Jannette O’Brien and John McDarby of the Council’s Community and Enterprise Section as well as Fionnghuala Ryan, the Council’s Environmental Awareness Officer. The groups received lots of practical advice on entering the Tidy Towns competition. All agreed that they would approach the application in 2010 differently from previous years.
" Presentations at the seminar concentrated on analysing previous adjudications in the county and taking the practical advice from the Tidy Towns judges, " said Jannette O’Brien.

Background
The Tidy Towns Movement has experienced many changes over its forty years of existence. During that time it has helped to transform towns and villages throughout Ireland and has been a major force for community development. The changes facing the movement have included social, economic and cultural changes, an increase in the urban based population and the growth of tourism. Tidy Towns is critically important for many reasons.
- The benefits of a community working together towards a common goal encourages social development.
- Tidy Towns attracts economic activity to an area.
Tidy Towns 2010 Handbook
The Handbook aims to give practical advice on environmental improvements and how they can be provided, not only for towns and villages but also for larger urban areas.
