Strategic Arts Plan 2007 - 2010
The purpose of the strategy Arts plan 2007 - 2010 is to outline five key strands for development, which are identified as the areas for the Carlow Local Authorities arts service to focus on over the next two years. Within each of the five key strands, the arts service will encourage, support and create new ways for individuals and communities in the county to engage with the arts within the resources available to us. This will be achieved through innovative programming across all art form areas that are inclusive, accessible and relevant to the local community.

Tullow Civic Offices Spring Exhibition
Mary Kelly (nee Cullen) is originally from Dublin, and now lives in Carlow with her husband Shane.
Having completed a BA in Fine Art Print in the National College of Art & Design in 1993, Mary spent ten years exploring the areas of therapeutic artwork and community arts through her work as an art teacher and facilitator. Working with groups and organisations including Women’s Aid, the Drimnagh Resource Centre, St. John of God’s and Dublin City Artsquad, Mary always found the most fascinating part of the work was seeing how individuals become completely absorbed in the art-making process (being ‘in the flow’). With this subject area as her research topic, Mary completed an MSc in Developmental Disability Studies in UCD, for which she received the Eunice Kennedy Shriver Medal in 2004.
Having spent this time encouraging other people to engage with their creativity, Mary finally decided it was time to actively engage with her own artwork again. In her studio at home in Carlow, she has delved into working with fabric, paint and print, with particular inspiration drawn from patterns in found textiles and papers and the rich colours and textures to be found in clothes and bundles of cloth. Memory, musings and ‘forgotten treasures’ are key themes in the artwork.
These inspirations are evident in the current series of work, ‘Meditations…a series of mixed media artworks’, showing for April and May 2010 at the Tullow Civic Offices, Co. Carlow.
