Carlow County Library service provides access to information throughout the County at Carlow Central Library, Tullow Library and Muinebheag Library and on this website. The service has over 8,000 members and free internet access is available at all libraries. You can access the resources of the library through the online catalogue. We welcome new members and those seeking to develop their reading interests. The library encourages those who wish to strenghten their literacy and reading skills. A year round programme of events is available to all. The extensive Local Studies Department is strong in material of Carlow interest.

Membership
How do I get a library card?
A library card application may be completed at any of our libraries. Adults must show name and address identification and young people 18 years and under will need a parent's signature to complete the application process. All applications for library cards must be made in person. If you register in person, you are given a library card immediately.
For working adults the membership charge is €10 per annum. Membership is free for those on social welfare, disability benefit or old age pension. Membership is also free for third level students and for all those under the age of eighteen.
Borrowing
What can I borrow?
You may borrow books, magazines, audiobooks, DVD's, compact discs, and many other kinds of materials. All items can be checked out for 3 weeks. Adults can borrow 6 items from all our libraries and children can borrow 4 for a period of 3 weeks. To find a book or other item search the online catalogue. It can be accessed in the Library or through the Carlow County Council Home Page at www.carlow.ie.
Fines
How do I avoid paying fines?
Fines can be avoided first and foremost by returning your books on time. If you would like to keep your books out for a longer period you can renew them. You may renew items over the web by accessing Your Library Record. Renewals may also be done in person at any our 3 libraries or by phone. Have the barcode numbers on your library card and the materials you want to renew ready. Fines are charged at 10c per week per book and renewals are for a 3 week period.
Children's Services
Do you offer programs/events for children?
Carlow library takes a great interest in providing a well balanced service for our younger members. Art and Crafts, Quizzes and Book Exploration Nights are just some of the regular events in the library.
Computers
All our libraries have free internet access for library members. Sessions of 50 minutes and 20 minutes are available. Printing costs 10c per black/white sheet and 20c for a colour printout. Your library card must be produced in order to book an internet session.
