Rental Accommodation Scheme
The Rental Accommodation Scheme is an initiative introduced to cater for the accommodation needs of persons who are in receipt of rent supplement, normally for more than 18 months, and who have a long term housing need.
- The local authority will locate accommodation for eligible applicants and pay rent direct to the landlord. The applicant still contributes to the rent but pays instead to the council.
- The scheme will provide long-term housing security and lead to improvements in the quality and standards of private rented accommodation.
- An applicant qualifies if they already receive a rent supplement under the supplementary welfare allowance scheme and are assessed by the local authority to have a longterm housing need.
