The competition, organised by the Department of the Environment, Community and Local Government with the support of the main sponsor SuperValu and many other agencies, is the premier environmental competition in the country. All entrants will receive their report and a results book in the post the day after the ceremony.
County Carlow retained it’s three Tidy Towns gold medals for Clonegal, Leighlinbridge and Carlow. Old Leighlin won the County Endeavour Award and Clonegal won the County Award.
"I congratulate all the committees and communities who participated in Tidy Towns from County Carlow" said Bernie O’Brien, Director of Service with Carlow County Council. "I am absolutely delighted for our Gold Medal winners, as well as all the participants in the county. These results obviously reflect the dedication and hard work of the Tidy Towns Committees and their volunteers. Our towns and villages show the care and attention which the communities lavish on them and the county was ablaze with flowers, baskets and containers as well as beautiful trees during the summer," she said.
"Tidy Towns committees take on board the recommendations which are outlined in each year’s feedback reports. I know groups this year put a lot of effort into waste minimization and the flora and fauna in their area. County Carlow Tidy Towns groups have the continuing support of their community, local schools, businesses and Carlow Local Authorities. The result is that our towns and villages are beautiful, attractive and welcoming places that are always very well presented. The Tidy Towns Awards show that people can make a difference to their own area and make them better places to live, work and visit," Bernie O’Brien concluded.
