Litter Action League 2011
We have the results for the 2011 Carlow Litter Action League. We know the winners in the categories for schools, licenced premises and a new category for civic buildings as well as four leagues in Carlow town ( Barrow, Burrin, Castle and Dolmen Leagues ) and four leagues in the County ( St. Mogue’s, St. Molings, St. Patrick’s and St. Lazerian’s Leagues ). We're keeping the winners secret until the Award ceremony for the Litter League and Pride of Place in late October or early November, 2011.
' We’re sustaining the momentum of the Irish Business Against Litter ( IBAL ) League first place award for the third time in a decade and building on our achievement. We aim to keep Carlow up in the ratings in the IBAL League ' said Bernie O’Brien, Director of Services for Community and Enterprise, Economic Development and Corporate Affairs.

Litter Action League - Background
The purpose of this initiative is to encourage Local Community Councils and Tidy Town Committees to further their involvement in the eradication of litter in towns and villages in County Carlow. The competition also helps to raise awareness of the extent and effect of litter in local communities with awards being given to the winners and runners up.
Environmental and Amenity Grants
This is a good time to think about projects that would qualify for Environmental Grants in the County and Amenity Grants in the Town area. Landscaping and improvement of open spaces, provision of litter bins or street furniture as well as any works to enhance the appearance of an area or reduce litter would qualify.
Grants could be awarded up to half of the approved costs; paid on completion of the approved works.
