Benefits

Drama for young people is widely recognised as a practical way of engaging young people in a creative environment. Taking part in youth drama is seen as a great confidence booster and a positive form of social outlet and self expression. Drama is renowned for improving social and personal skills as well as providing a safe environment in which young people can express themselves without the fear of repercussions or difficulties of peer pressure. This potential and undoubted benefit of drama for young people is recognised in Carlow through County Carlow Youth Theatre.

Tullow Youth Theatre

Now going into its 4th year took to the stage again this May. Seventeen young people from around the area worked hard for months presenting their new devised play….

Wonderful Wednesdays

Jimmy Lightheart has it all. Money, fame, happiness? Probably the greatest chat show host who ever lived. On one Wonderful Wednesday Jimmy has the opportunity to get an insight into the lives of some of his viewers. He has always wondered what kind of people watch his Wonderful Wednesday daytime chat show. Now he can find out.

But will he like what he sees?

Since September the group have worked tirelessly to create their own riveting characters and dynamic plots and story. This process has been led through a series of practical and creative workshops which have given the young actors the environment in which they can be creative.

The showcase event was for two nights in Tullow Parish Centre and the group performed to a packed out audience on both nights.

Tullow Youth Theatre was established in 2008 by Carlow Local Authorities Arts Office. It continues to be funded and supported through Carlow County Councils Arts Office.

County Carlow Youth Theatre

County Carlow Youth Theatre presented ‘The Game’ on Wednesday 25th May in the George Bernard Shaw Theatre.  Talented senior members of County Carlow Youth Theatre performed a self devised piece.  Everyone in the world is on an average approximately six steps away from any other person on Earth.  Delving into random groups of seemingly unconnected people’s lives to see how they were all connected and the relationships that they built.  Life is a game!

County Carlow Youth Theatre is a Carlow Local Authorities Arts Office initiative and is a dynamic organisation that aims to provide youth drama as a service to any young person aged 11 – 22 years, county wide.  For further information please contact Carlow Local Authorities Arts Office 059 9136204 or e-mail ascully@carlowcoco.ie
