Register of Electors
Every local authority in Ireland is responsible for compiling and publishing a Register of Electors each year for its area. Anyone can inspect this Register and it is available in all local authority offices, post offices, Garda stations and public libraries. There are certain rules in place regarding who can vote in Ireland. For example, you must be a certain age and must have been resident in Ireland for a certain length of time before the Register comes into effect. In addition, your citizenship will determine in which elections you can vote in Ireland.
During the months of August and September Carlow Local Authorities will carry out house-to-house enquiries for the purpose of preparing the draft register.
Draft Register
The draft register is publised on 1st November and is made available for examination up to 25th November. You are invited to check the draft during this period to make sure that you are correctly registered. Any errors or omissions in the draft should be brought immediately to the attention of the registration authority.
Final Register
The final register is published on 1st February and comes into force for a year on the 15th February.
